Pesticide Safety Education for private applicators

Three certification options are available: training or testing or self-study.

Certain pesticides are classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as "restricted use," and may only be applied by licensed applicators.

Private applicators may be certified by

  • attending a training session conducted by the extension office ($30), or
  • by completing the self study booklet available at the extension office ($60), or
  • by passing a test administered by Nebraska Department of Agriculture (no charge).
Certified applicators become licensed by Nebraska Department of Agriculture after submitting the licensing fee ($25) to NDA.

Private applicators are those who apply pesticides for themselves or farm workers who apply pesticides to their employers' ground.

Licensing is valid for three years.

For more information about licensing and related topics visit UNL Pesticide Education Resources.
