Extension works with a number of other government agencies to teach nutritional well-being and economic self-sufficiency (especially as related to food purchases). Lessons are taught through home-study courses, group sessions or one-on-one home visits. Participants in the program have reported that they benefitted by developing the following habits or skills:
  • practicing safe methods of handling foods,
  • being more conscious of what children are eating at home,
  • reading food labels when shopping,
  • budgeting skills,
  • improving nutrition during pregnancy and
  • making quick and easy meals on a limited income.
