Extension works with a number of other government agencies
to teach nutritional well-being and economic self-sufficiency (especially
as related to food purchases). Lessons are taught through home-study courses,
group sessions or one-on-one home visits. Participants in the program have
reported that they benefitted by developing the following habits or skills:

practicing safe methods of handling foods,
-
being more conscious of what children are eating at home,
-
reading food labels when shopping,
-
budgeting skills,
-
improving nutrition during pregnancy and
-
making quick and easy meals on a limited income.
